Glenbard West Comes Together
Team Building Weekend:  Two More Victories G-WUB!

Coach Pete Mastandrea wanted to do something for the Lady Hill toppers that would build memories, bring the team together, and allow the girls to socially interact as a unit.  With planning, support from the faculty and staff, and parental help, the girl’s gathered on a bus for a two-game trip to Chicago and a one not team building stay at the Chicago Courtyard Marriot.  This trip had been on the calendar for the Hilltopper Volleyball Program for twenty-five years, but it never happened.  Thanks to the dedication and determination by Coach Mastandrea, the weekend was both memorable and relaxing for the girls.
So what happens when you put 30 girls together in a hotel representing Glenbard West High School?  Here are some of the memories that the girls will always have after this overnight… including two more wins for the varsity girls.

VARSITY GOES BEYOND LAST YEARS RECORD… A HUGE VICTORY AGAISNT PALATINE HIGH SCHOOL

Before the first serve, the Lady Hilltoppers gathered together for a heart to heart talk.  With Head Coach Pete Mastandrea in the center, the girls sincerely listened as they recalled their previous game experience against Palatine High School.  They knew this win would be more to them then another W on the board.  This win would show their strength as a unit, their development as a team, and their individual growth as a young lady Hilltopper.  A victory against Palatine High School would promote their true representation as young athletes at Glenbard West.

The girls could not believe the first game as they watch Palatine creep up serve, after serve and eventually take the lead.  The Hilltoppers struggled in their serve receive and could not get a ball to their offense.  Things were falling apart and they were watching the game instead of playing it.  Finally, after the last time out and a serious injury to Chloe Miller at game point, the girls new they were going to have to change their ways in order to win this one, and that is what they did.

Glenbard West decided to play the game for one of the Coach Ellis who was recently in a motorcycle accident.  Coach Ellis a key factor to the girl’s success.  Game two began with a total of seven aces.  Their offense was on fire, their defense did not miss a pass, and their serving was phenomenal.  The Hilltoppers could not be beat totally 8 kills in the 2nd game, defeating Palatine 25-6.

As they went out on the floor for game three, Coach Mayer looked at the girls and thought to herself “we’ve won”  The Hilltoppers had fire in their eyes and finally began to communicate with each other.  Kill after kill, ace after ace; the girls had won, beating Palatine high school 25-8.  A huge victory for the girls, as they move on tomorrow to Hinsdale Central.

GLENBARD WEST HOSTS VARSITY TOURNAMENT, Finishes 2nd in POOL PLAY

No one knew what Glenbard West was going to do in Friday Night’s Hilltopper Tournament.  The Hilltoppers realized that they were in one of the toughest pools in the tourney, finding themselves pushing for every point as they defeated the state ranked Hinsdale South and losing in game three to Streamwood High School.

A victory against Hinsdale South was the main ingredient to stay on top of the tournament.  Glenbard West came at Hinsdale strong… serving for every point and key blocking by their middles, the Lady Toppers found themselves ahead in game one.  With consecutive serving points by Amy Kendall and amazing defensive digs by Freshmen Tori Clifford, the girls took the lead and never allowed Hinsdale South to get close.  The Hilltoppers made amazing adjustments to their defense and offense as Hinsdale South began to tip away, but nothing was going to get by Glenbard West  as they defeated the Hornets in game one 25-22.

Game two was a momentum turn for the Lady Toppers.  With a service rally from Hinsdale South for seven consecutive points, the Hilltoppers fell early with a 0-6 score.  Finding for every point, Glenbard West begin to serve for points.  Chloe Miller and Meghan Gitter started the ace serving frenzy, followed by Amy Kendall and Tori Clifford. With some huge blocks by Andrea Roberts and Bridget Lawson, and amazing front row play by the outsides Laura Luczak and Melissa Noland, the Hilltoppers stayed right with the Lady Hornets.   Unfortunately the Hilltoppers could never get on top and fell to the Hornets in game two with a score of 21-25.

But game three would prove the GLENBARD WEST GIRLS VOLLEYBALL HAS ARRIVED!  Amazing passing by Kara Stack allowed for the offensive line to set in system and get the job done.  With ACE point by Amy Kendall, the Hilltoppers put another win under their belts defeating the top ranked Hinsdale South Hornets.
GO GLENBARD WEST!!!!

Glenbard West takes 2nd place in Resurrection Tournament

The Glenbard West Hilltoppers proved that they have arrived on Saturday September 8th, as they finished 4-1 in the Chicago Resurrection Tournament.  Beating Trinity High School, Driscoll Catholic, Lane Tech, and Niles West, the Hilltoppers found their way into the Championship game against Nazerath.
With an early game, the lady Toppers began the tournament with a 2 win victory against Driscoll.  With confidence and serving on their side, the Hilltoppers wasted no time and went at Lane Tech.  Another win for the Glenbard West and they found themselves playing for first place in their pool against Trinity High School.  Seniors lead the team to victory number three with a 25-19 and 25-20 win to put them in 1st place.
As the girls entered the cross over game against Niles West, they decided it was time to step it up.  With Lily Bromann out with an injured ankle, and Liz Lombardi a pulled shoulder, the Lady Toppers had to dig deep into their bench to pull this one off.  With high passing percentages and huge kills rates, the girls moved onto the Championship Game defeating Niles West in three.
Game one was a nail biter with the Hilltoppers scrapping for every point.  The girls fell short in game one and began game to with Emily Lombardi out with a rolled ankle.  The girls worked hard, showed determination to win, and came through for Glenbard West with a second place plaque.
